Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature an in-game messaging system, a staple of previous Soulsborne titles. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki, is a practical one. The fast-paced, multiplayer-focused design of Nightreign, anticipated to have shorter play sessions of around 40 minutes, leaves insufficient time for players to engage with the messaging system.
While this key asynchronous feature is absent, other elements will return and be enhanced. The bloodstain mechanic, for example, will be significantly improved, allowing players to observe and even loot the ghosts of fallen opponents. This reinforces FromSoftware's goal of a more streamlined and intense experience.
FromSoftware aims for a "compressed RPG" in Nightreign, prioritizing variety and minimizing downtime. This vision, coupled with the game's three-day structure, explains the omission of the messaging system. The focus is on a more consistently intense and multiplayer-driven experience compared to the original Elden Ring.
Nightreign's release is targeted for 2025, as revealed at TGA 2024, though a precise release date remains unannounced.
