In a recent interview, former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, shared insights into the challenges CD Projekt Red faced in merging a grand narrative with an open-world framework. The team was initially apprehensive about whether the ambitious storytelling typically found in linear RPGs, like The Witcher 2, could effectively blend with the freedom of an open-world environment.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz
Despite these concerns, CDPR took the bold step forward, resulting in the creation of one of the most acclaimed RPGs to date—The Witcher 3. Now, Tomaszkiewicz spearheads the development at Rebel Wolves, working on their new title, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternative medieval Eastern Europe infused with dark fantasy elements, the game centers around vampires and promises to captivate players with its unique setting.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. While an official release date remains undisclosed, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer, heightening anticipation for what promises to be another compelling addition to the RPG genre.
