Capcom is enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance and aiming to reduce PC GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test.
Lowering the GPU Bar
Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements, showcasing smoother gameplay (a hunter battling Quematrice) with an updated Prioritize Framerate mode for PS5. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, focusing on lowering the recommended GPU requirements. Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in this endeavor would broaden the game's accessibility to players with less powerful hardware. A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess system compatibility.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The October/November 2024 beta test revealed performance issues, including low-polygon character models and framerate drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often compromised visual quality. Capcom acknowledged these problems, stating that afterimage issues (with Frame Generation enabled) would be resolved in the final release, which is already in a more polished state than the beta.
Second Beta and Future Outlook
A second open beta test (February 7-10 and 14-17, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam) is scheduled, featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether the performance improvements will be included in this beta remains to be seen. However, Capcom's commitment to optimization suggests a more refined experience at launch.
