Capcom's latest title, despite achieving impressive online player counts (currently holding a top-6 spot on Steam's most-played list), is facing considerable backlash due to significant technical flaws. Digital Foundry's in-depth analysis of the PC version confirms these issues, painting a concerning picture of the game's performance.
Their report highlights numerous problems. Shader pre-compilation times are excessively long, ranging from 9 minutes on a high-end 9800X3D system to over 30 minutes on a Ryzen 3600. Texture quality is disappointingly low, even at the "High" setting. Testing on an RTX 4060 at 1440p with balanced DLSS revealed substantial frame time inconsistencies. Even the more powerful RTX 4070 (12GB) struggles, producing noticeably poor textures.
For GPUs with only 8GB of VRAM, Digital Foundry recommends reducing texture quality to "Medium" to alleviate stuttering and frame time spikes. However, visual fidelity remains suboptimal even with this compromise. Rapid camera movements still trigger noticeable frame drops, though less severe with slower pans. Crucially, the frame time issues persist regardless of texture settings.
Digital Foundry's Alex Battaglia attributes the root cause to inefficient data streaming, placing excessive strain on the GPU during decompression. This heavily impacts budget graphics cards, leading to pronounced frame time spikes. He advises against purchasing the game for 8GB GPU owners and expresses reservations even about higher-end cards like the RTX 4070.
Performance is particularly abysmal on Intel GPUs. The Arc 770, for instance, manages only 15-20 frames per second, accompanied by missing textures and other visual artifacts. While high-end systems can partially mitigate these issues, a consistently smooth experience remains elusive. Optimizing settings currently proves nearly impossible without sacrificing significant visual quality.
