ASTRA: Knights of Veda is set to undergo a significant language adjustment post-maintenance on January 23, 2025. This change will see the removal of English voiceovers, aligning with trends observed in other gacha games. Dive deeper to understand the reasoning behind this decision and its impact on the gaming community.
ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
To Improve Game Stability and Localizations
FLINT, the developers behind ASTRA: Knights of Veda, have announced the removal of English dubbing starting January 23, 2025. This move aims to enhance "game stability and higher-quality localizations." A Language Support adjustment was announced on January 20, signaling the upcoming changes.
The scheduled maintenance on January 23 will result in the removal of dubbing support for several languages including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English (text only), Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.
While English text support remains, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, players outside Korea will find their In-Game Voice option defaulted to Japanese. FLINT reassures that these changes will not impact players' ability to chat in the removed languages.
Despite potential fan concerns, FLINT is committed to enhancing services and experiences for their "Masters of the Book."
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't alone in this decision. Other gacha games like Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone have also taken steps to remove or limit English voice-overs.
In May 2024, Square Enix announced the removal of English voice-overs for future content in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing chapters will retain English voice-overs, but new content will default to Japanese, reflecting a strategic focus on the Japanese language for future updates.
Aether Gazer followed suit in February 2024, removing English voice-overs entirely post the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" version release due to financial challenges. The developers redirected resources to bolster gameplay, performance, and future content development.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone made a similar move in December 2023, opting to remove English voice-overs starting with Version 1.4 after evaluating player preferences and aiming to enhance the overall gaming experience.
These decisions highlight a broader industry trend towards prioritizing preferred languages and optimizing resource allocation. This approach not only caters to the majority of the player base but also ensures the long-term sustainability of these games by reallocating funds to areas most valued by players.
