Assassin’s Creed Remakes Confirmed by Ubisoft CEOVarious Types of AC Games to Come Out Regularly, Seemingly Yearly
In a recent interview on the Ubisoft website, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that several reimaginings of Assassin’s Creed games are in the works. Though, he did not specify which titles are getting remade. He shared, "Firstly, players can be excited about some revamped games, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich." Fans may expect to see classic entries in the Assassin’s Creed series completely reinvigorated.
Beyond remakes, Guillemot said that there are a "variety of experiences" that fans can expect in the coming years. "There will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year," he explained.
Forthcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Hexe and Assassin’s Creed Shadows promise to deliver novel and distinctive experiences within the franchise. Hexe, set in 16th-century Europe, is aiming for a 2026 launch, while the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade is anticipated in 2025. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, will be released on November 15, 2024.Ubisoft has a track record of remastering its classic titles, with releases like Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection in 2016 and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered in 2018. Last year, reports emerged about a potential remake of the popular Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, though Ubisoft has yet to confirm this.
Ubisoft Promotes Generative AI
In addition to discussing remakes and new releases, Guillemot addressed the advancing technology in game development. He emphasized the progress in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, particularly its dynamic weather system that influences gameplay and substantial visual enhancements. He also reaffirmed his confidence in the potential of generative AI to improve game environments."Technology is progressing at such a rate that there are boundless possibilities for advancement," Guillemot observed. "In Assassin's Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; ponds that were once navigable might freeze, for instance."
"Visually, we're also seeing a major leap forward for the series. I have also been very outspoken about the potential I see in generative AI and how it can enhance NPCs to be more intelligent, more interactive," he added. "This could potentially extend to animals in the environment, to the environment itself. There is still so much we can do to enhance these open environments to be even more dynamic."
