Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director Addresses DLC and Modding
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the PC version of the game, addressing player anticipation for DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.
No Immediate Plans for DLC, but Player Feedback Matters
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content to the PC version is not currently planned. However, he emphasized that significant player demand could influence future decisions. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he explained.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The PC release will undoubtedly attract modders. While the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi expressed respect for the modding community’s creativity. He appealed to modders to avoid creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for player-created content is significant, mirroring the impact of mods on other titles. However, the need to maintain a positive gaming environment necessitates this responsible approach.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts improved graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous criticisms about character models. Higher-end PCs will benefit from significantly improved visuals beyond the capabilities of the PS5 version. The porting process presented unique challenges, particularly in adapting the game's mini-games for PC controls.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game originally released for PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim.
