Investigating vehicle collisions just got easier with the EDR "Blackbox" Scan Tool and PDF Accident Reports. Our CrashScan app, used with the OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter, scans vehicle computer modules, including the Event Data Recorder (EDR), often called the "black box" where supported (see vehicle support below). CrashScan helps investigators identify, extract, and interpret stored accident data, streamlining the validation of motor vehicle insurance claims and providing key insights into liability or questionable claims.
Vehicle Support (EDR & Full System Diagnostic Scan)
CrashScan supports over 3000 unique vehicle year/make/model combinations internationally. Check compatibility here: https://collisionsciences.ca/reports/check_support/
Contextual Accident Reports
A successful CrashScan provides detailed information on impact severity, orientation (front, rear, or side), and crucial context, including:
- Accident severity (minor, moderate, or severe)
- EDR trigger thresholds
- 5 seconds of pre-crash data: speed, brake and accelerator pedal use, and steering input
- Number of occupants and seatbelt status
- Estimated damage repair cost ($)
- Likelihood of structural crush damage
- Injury risk thresholds (whiplash, injury duration)
- Typical g-forces in daily activities for comparison
*Injury risk algorithms utilize stored acceleration values, scientific articles, and databases like the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS).

These laws generally require consent from the vehicle owner or policyholder before data retrieval, with certain exceptions.
End-User Consent
By downloading the CrashScan app, you consent to its installation, future updates, and data collection as outlined in our privacy statement. You can withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the app. For more information, visit CollisionSciences.ca.
