They can even get creative in the paint editor, customizing characters, adding their own voices and sounds, or inserting personal photos. Then, with a few more clicks, their characters come to life, all thanks to the power of programming!
ScratchJr is inspired by the renowned Scratch programming language (http://scratch.mit.edu), loved by millions of older kids globally. We've tailored ScratchJr's interface and language to be perfect for younger audiences, ensuring it matches their cognitive, personal, social, and emotional growth stages.
We believe that coding is a crucial new literacy, much like writing. It helps children organize their thoughts and express their ideas. While coding was once considered too complex for most, we're here to change that—coding should be accessible to everyone, just like writing.

ScratchJr is a collaborative effort between the Developmental Technologies group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company.
