Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated crossplay update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will introduce cross-platform multiplayer capabilities, allowing players across all platforms to team up. The update will also add a crucial world transfer feature for Pals. While details remain scarce beyond a promotional image depicting a Palworld battle featuring numerous characters against a colossal Pal, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at "a few little surprises" included in the March update.
This news is a significant boon for the 32 million players who've embraced Palworld since its January 2024 early access launch. Pocketpair has unveiled an extensive 2025 content roadmap for Palworld, including the crossplay feature, a concluding storyline ("ending scenario"), and additional content for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld's launch was a resounding success. Priced at $30 on Steam and simultaneously available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, it shattered sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed that the game's initial success was so overwhelming that the developer struggled to manage the resulting substantial profits. Despite this, Pocketpair swiftly capitalized on Palworld's popularity, forming a new venture, Palworld Entertainment, in partnership with Sony, to expand the IP and bring the game to the PS5.
However, a looming legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company casts a shadow over Palworld's success. The companies are seeking an injunction and damages, alleging Palworld infringes on multiple patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and modifying the Pal summoning mechanic within the game. The developer remains steadfast in its defense, stating, “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
