Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5's Michael De Santa (Ned Luke) offers fans reassurance regarding the highly anticipated GTA 6, predicting blockbuster sales figures. This article delves into expectations surrounding GTA 6's development and release.
Rockstar Games' Unconventional Approach to GTA 6
GTA 6: A $1.3 Billion Day-One Prediction
Ned Luke, voicing his confidence in GTA 6's success, forecasts a staggering $1.3 billion in sales on its first day. In a recent interview with Fall Damage, Luke expressed his belief that the game will be exceptional, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of Rockstar Games' creations.
He urged patience, stating, "What I tell people is, be patient. It's going to be worth the wait. From what I've seen, it's going to be amazing." He cited GTA 5's $800 million opening-day haul in 2013 as a benchmark, suggesting GTA 6 will significantly surpass this record. Market research firm DFC Intelligence projects over 40 million copies sold and $3.2 billion in revenue within the first year, with $1 billion attributed solely to pre-orders.
The Return of GTA 5 Characters?
Luke also speculated on the potential return of GTA 5 characters, noting Michael's absence from GTA Online, unlike Trevor and Franklin. He hinted at Michael's possible appearance in a future GTA Online DLC or even GTA 6 itself. Steven Ogg (Trevor) previously suggested a "passing the torch" scenario where Trevor meets his demise early in GTA 6.
Luke remained coy, stating, "Maybe [Michael, Franklin, and Trevor will be] in GTA 6, like [its online mode]. Maybe. Maybe not. You know Rockstar is not going to tell you anything. And if we say anything, you know they will not be very happy." While both actors express enthusiasm for reprising their roles, official confirmation remains elusive.
GTA 6: In the Testing Phase?
Former Rockstar animator Mike York, in a since-deleted interview, indicated that GTA 6 is likely undergoing internal testing. He highlighted the game's unique unpredictability, stating, "There are a lot of things that can happen that you don't really think about until some random kid in his basement tries it, you know? You really don't."
York believes the game is in an advanced testing stage, possibly nearing completion, with numerous internal testers already playing through it. He added, "They're probably still putting in a little work and throwing in little extras."
Rockstar Games unveiled GTA 6 with a trailer in December 2023, but has remained tight-lipped since. While a Fall 2025 release was previously speculated based on Take-Two Interactive's financial reports, no official release date has been confirmed.
