Gran Saga is shutting its doors on April 30th, 2025, ending its brief international run. In-app purchases are already disabled, and the game will no longer be available for download. Players who made in-app purchases have until May 30th to request a refund, though this may not be possible in all cases.
Launched in Japan in 2021 to considerable success, the global version of Gran Saga debuted only in November 2024, lasting less than six months. The closure is attributed to financial challenges and an inability to sustain the game in the fiercely competitive global mobile market. Established games with large, loyal player bases make it difficult for newcomers to gain traction unless they offer a truly unique and compelling experience. Despite its initial Japanese success, this momentum didn't translate internationally.
This closure adds to the growing trend of gacha RPG shutdowns. The mobile gaming market is incredibly saturated, leading to many games, even those initially successful, struggling to survive long-term. Players often stick with familiar titles, making it difficult for new games to compete.
