Days Gone Remastered: $10 PS5 Upgrade Now Live

Author : Nicholas Update:Feb 22,2025

Days Gone Remastered's $10 upgrade sparks PS Plus subscriber outrage. While the remastered version for PlayStation 5 was a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play, the $10 upgrade path is exclusive to those who purchased the PlayStation 4 disc or digital version. PS Plus subscribers, including those who obtained the game through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or April 2021's Essential monthly offering, are ineligible for this discounted upgrade and must pay the full $49.99 price.

This policy has ignited a firestorm of complaints online. PlayStation Plus subreddit threads are flooded with comments from subscribers expressing their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but now opting to skip the game entirely. Many argue that Sony missed a significant revenue opportunity by excluding PS Plus owners, potentially losing sales from those who might have paid a small fee to try the remastered version.

One user, squarejellyfish_, noted the potential for substantial revenue had Sony included PS Plus subscribers, even if only a fraction opted for the upgrade. Others echoed this sentiment, highlighting the missed chance to generate additional income from a segment of players already owning the game. The perception of Sony's decision as "stingy" is prevalent among some hardcore fans, who feel the company missed an opportunity to demonstrate goodwill.

While some acknowledge Sony's likely financial analysis behind this decision, the negative reaction underscores the potential impact of such policies on player perception and loyalty. The controversy surrounding Days Gone Remastered's upgrade highlights a broader discussion about the value proposition of game upgrades and the relationship between publishers and subscription service users. Beyond Days Gone Remastered, the State of Play event also featured other PlayStation game announcements; IGN's February 2025 State of Play roundup provides a comprehensive overview.
