Path of Exile 2's Atlas offers four major endgame encounters: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. Rituals, drawing inspiration from the original Path of Exile's Ritual League, are a revived seasonal mechanic. This guide details Ritual initiation, mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss (King in the Mists), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.
Understanding PoE 2 Rituals and Altars
Atlas map nodes hosting guaranteed endgame events are marked with specific icons. Ritual Altars are indicated by a red pentagram icon with a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, inserted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Maps with Ritual encounters feature multiple Altars. Each map has a shared random modifier impacting enemy types or mechanics. These modifiers might introduce massive rat swarms or life-draining pools of blood.
Locate an Altar, check its modifiers, and interact to trigger a large enemy wave. Remain within the designated circle; venturing into the shadows ends the event without rewards. Successfully completing all Rituals on a map marks it as complete.
Ritual Pinnacle Boss: The King in the Mists
The 'An Audience With The King' currency item, a potential Ritual reward, unlocks access to The Crux Of Nothingness and the King in the Mists Pinnacle Boss fight. Use it on your Atlas map's Realmgate.
The King in the Mists shares mechanics with his Act 1 Cruel counterpart (Freythorn zone). Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at event-exclusive Uniques, powerful Currencies, and Omen items.
Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible via the Atlas map's passive skill tree screen (bottom right), enhances Ritual rewards. It features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Each King in the Mists victory awards 2 skill points. Increasing difficulty is mandatory for new Notable nodes.
Here's a summary of Notable nodes:
Notable Node | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | 25% increased Altar skill damage; 50% less Tribute, 50% faster Favour appearance. | N/A |
From The Mists | 2 extra enemy packs in Rituals. | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness, deal 10% more damage, but no longer penalize Tribute. | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | 4 Ritual Altars guaranteed per map. | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Guaranteed Wildwood Wisp (increased Tribute). | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | 25% faster monster waves, 50% increased chance of Omen in Favours. | N/A |
He Approaches | 20% chance for revived monsters to be Magic or Rare; 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King'. | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Extra Favour re-roll; 25% cheaper re-rolls. | N/A |
Prioritize 'From The Mists', 'Spreading Darkness', and 'Ominous Portents' initially for maximized rewards. Then, pursue 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for valuable Omens and boss encounter chances.
PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards
Completed Rituals award Tribute, used to purchase randomized Favours. More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock higher-tier rewards, including Rare gear and top-tier Currencies. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively obtained via Favours.
Omen items, powerful consumables boosting Currency effects, are potential rewards. Their effects are consumed upon use; consider trading them if unsure.
Rituals also yield regular high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.), while the King in the Mists offers a chance at event-exclusive Uniques.
