Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that information will be shared "little by little." During a livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii mentioned that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This update marks the first news since May 2024, when Horii had previously addressed the passing of key team members, including character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, lead producer Yu Miyake had stepped down to focus on Square Enix's mobile game division.
Concerns about the project's cancellation arose due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates, but Horii's recent comments have dispelled these fears, confirming that Dragon Quest 12 is indeed still in the works.
Announced during the series' 35th anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest 12 is poised to be the next mainline entry following 2017's Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. In other news, Square Enix has reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has exceeded sales expectations, moving 2 million copies.
