According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. chose not to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made significant moves, including the cancellation of a planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the developing studio, Monolith Productions. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games, were also shut down. The company also conducted layoffs at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority, aligning with their strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
