Following the success of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Koei Tecmo has released another exciting addition to the musou genre with Warriors: Abyss, a fresh roguelite experience featuring beloved characters from the Warriors series. Launched today, this game brings a new twist to the genre with its unique gameplay mechanics.
Showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, Warriors: Abyss allows players to form a squad and battle through endless waves of enemies. With an isometric camera view, it draws inspiration from games like Diablo and the Greek mythology-themed roguelite, Hades. Players will navigate through the depths of "hell," facing off against demonic foes, with iconic characters such as Zhou Yu, Nobunaga Oda, and Sunshang Xiang leading the charge.
According to the PlayStation Blog, players can recruit and add various characters to their team over time, enhancing their battle strategy with additional summoning actions. Up to seven heroes can be active in combat at once, chosen from a roster of 100 warriors available at launch.
Koei Tecmo has ambitious plans to expand the character lineup post-launch, starting with additions from the Jin kingdom in Dynasty Warriors. The developer hinted at future waves of characters, including potential crossovers from outside the Warriors universe.
Warriors: Abyss is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Nintendo Switch enthusiasts can look forward to the game's release on February 13, 2025. For those eager to enhance their gameplay, securing the in-game Dynasty Warriors Costume Set is recommended before the deadline on March 14, 2025.
