Get ready for a trip back in time with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. This quest reunites players with a beloved character and sets the stage for the main event, introducing Sevatgoth Prime and their exclusive weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999, where a deadly Y2K virus threatens global annihilation. The setting: Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Navigate this futuristic dystopia using the new Atomicyles, versatile vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and explosive maneuvers. Players will control six members of the Hex team, each wielding a Protoframe – a Warframe showcasing the human beneath the armor.
The Hex team boasts a star-studded cast, featuring voice acting talent like Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through in-game instant messaging, adding a unique social layer to the experience.
Prepare to face a truly 90s antagonist: On-lyne, a boy band infected by Technocyte Coda. Their infectious music will be available on major streaming platforms, adding another layer of immersive retro charm. Their hit single, "Party of Your Lifetime," is already generating buzz.
A significant upgrade to Warframe's fashion system is also part of the update. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts and switch between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring the Protoframes, like Arthur and Aoi, into the Origin system, complete with fully voiced lines.
Beyond Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes announced a collaboration with THE LINE animation studio to produce an anime short based on the update. Additionally, new Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (coming early 2025) will be released.
