In a recent interview with Wccftech, the developers of Tides of Annihilation at Eclipse Glow Games discussed the game's unique blend of Arthurian legends and its London setting. Dive deeper to understand the game's concept and what the future holds.
Tides of Annihilation Aims For A Western Audience
The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights
During Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games shared insights into Tides of Annihilation with Wccftech, covering its concept, gameplay mechanics, and potential anthology plans. Despite being based in China, the studio chose a Western setting for the game, influenced by their financial backer, Tencent. "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, with different market focuses. Black Myth: Wukong targets the Chinese market, while Tides of Annihilation is aimed at a Western audience, leading us to incorporate Arthurian legends," explained the game's producer. The central theme revolves around knights, specifically King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, Tides of Annihilation follows the journey of Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor after an Outworld invasion. The game blends modern settings with fantasy elements inspired by Arthurian myths.
Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses
The gameplay reveal of Tides of Annihilation showcases combat reminiscent of the Devil May Cry series. The developers confirmed this influence, stating, "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry," but they've added a difficulty selection feature to make the game more accessible. The controls are designed to be user-friendly, catering to both casual and hardcore players.
Players can customize their combat style with four weapons and over ten different Knights to command as sidekicks. Gwendolyn discovers her ability to summon the legendary Knights of the Round Table to aid her in navigating the ruins of London and uncovering the truth behind the invasion. With over 30 bosses, each with unique abilities, the game promises challenging and engaging gameplay.
Plans Of Creating An Anthology
Eclipse Glow Games also expressed interest in expanding Tides of Annihilation into an anthology, exploring different settings and mythologies with new protagonists. "We would still want to use the Outworld invasion concept," they noted, suggesting this theme would be central to the anthology. The success of the first game is crucial for realizing these future plans.
Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will join Gwendolyn in her quest to save not only London but also the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
