DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, bringing renowned Marvel writer Dan Slott back to DC. Slott, celebrated for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity. This marks a significant comeback, following earlier contributions to DC titles like Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures.
The series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his lifelong ambition to craft Superman stories, emphasizing not only the character's powers but also his inner strength. He promises a monthly escape filled with surprising twists involving Superman, Lois Lane, supporting characters, classic villains, and new adversaries.
Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality. A Kryptonite asteroid shower imbues the planet with Green K, empowering enemies like Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. Superman must develop new technology and combat strategies to counter this unprecedented threat. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series' impact to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s, promising grand adventures alongside significant developments for DC's Superman comics. The widespread Green K creates a world where even petty criminals wield Kryptonite weapons, presenting an unparalleled challenge for Superman and his allies. This contrasts with the Justice League Unlimited series, focusing instead on a surge in super-villains empowered by the ubiquitous Kryptonite.
The series begins with a 10-page prelude in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film (July 11).
