Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly on the verge of embarking on a journey to a galaxy far, far away, bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Levy's Star Wars film is in negotiations with Gosling to take a leading role. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script finalized last year. He’s once again collaborating with Jonathan Tropper, who penned This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both Levy-directed films.
Naturally, details surrounding Levy's Star Wars movie are shrouded in secrecy. There’s no word yet on Gosling's potential character or the film's historical placement within the Star Wars timeline. However, it's confirmed to be unrelated to the Skywalker Saga and intended as a standalone film, ruling out a planned trilogy.
The Hollywood Reporter also suggests that Gosling's potential involvement has expedited the project's timeline. While Levy was previously attached to direct a boy band film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the report indicates that Gosling's commitment would likely make this Star Wars project Levy's next undertaking, with production slated to begin this fall.
