Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing exclusively on PlayStation 5 titles. This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects a growing player base on PS5.
The PlayStation Blog post explained that while PS4 games will become less frequent additions to the monthly and catalog offerings, already claimed titles remain accessible. Games currently in the Games Catalog will also stay available until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, highlighting continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company's focus will now be on adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony cites a player shift towards PS5 titles as the reason for this change. The company hasn't detailed whether PS4 games will transition to the Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles), but further announcements are expected closer to the date.
