Mastering Rune Slayer's Fishing Mechanics: A Comprehensive Guide
If you've ever doubted Rune Slayer’s MMORPG status, its fishing mechanic should settle the debate. This guide will walk you through the process, addressing common pitfalls encountered by new players.
Recommended Preparation: Embarking on Your Fishing Journey
Screenshot by The EscapistBefore casting your line, initiate the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda's swimming area). He requires 5 "fish" in exchange for a Tackle Box (the reason for the quotes will become clear).
To successfully complete this quest, you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both.
Screenshot by The EscapistPurchase a Wood Fishing Rod and Worms from Simon. While five worms are sufficient, purchasing more (we recommend 10) provides a buffer. Crucially, you don't equip the bait; simply keep the Worms in your inventory. Each successful catch (or "catch") consumes one worm. A minimum of five worms seems necessary for successful fishing. Placing them in your hotbar aids inventory management.
The Art of the Catch: Mastering the Fishing Technique
Gif by The EscapistSelect your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping necessary; simply have it in your hotbar or inventory). Hold M1 to cast your line into the water (the pier near Simon is ideal).
Observe the bobber. When it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch. Success isn't guaranteed; you might catch nothing or even junk items. However, Simon counts junk as a successful catch.
Repeat this process until you've accumulated five catches.

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the fishing quest. For further assistance, consult our Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer.
