Patapon’s Spiritual Successor Ratatan Unveils New Gameplay Trailer
Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle
The newly released Ratatan gameplay trailer offers an enthralling look at the game's mechanics, featuring intense combat against a colossal boss crab. Ratatan Works, the developers behind Ratatan, unveiled this trailer during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, giving fans a taste of what to expect.
Ratatan combines the rhythmic elements of its predecessor with roguelike action, creating a dynamic experience that supports online co-op for up to 4 players. The game promises massive melee battles with the ability to control up to 100 characters, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay.
Developed by Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and featuring music by the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has been a hit on Kickstarter since its launch in 2023. The campaign successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring the game's availability on various consoles.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to the latest update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan's closed beta is set to commence on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the producer of Ratatan, shared insights into the game's upcoming milestones and events.
Sakajiri announced that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on their Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. They plan to deliver an enhanced demo for the Steam Next festival in June.
During the closed beta, players can expect to play through Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the test period, which will last about a month. Sakajiri noted that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has not yet been announced, anticipation continues to build for this exciting new title.
