Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has cancelled the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
A String of Delays Leads to Cancellation
The European physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced multiple delays, shifting to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before being ultimately cancelled. Pre-orders were affected, with Amazon notifying customers of the repeated postponements. While Meridiem Games remained tight-lipped about the specific localization issues, the cumulative delays ultimately resulted in the cancellation announcement.
This news has left many fans disappointed, particularly since a physical release would have marked the first time Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. European players can still obtain physical copies, but only through importing from regions like the US.
Omori, an RPG about a young boy named Sunny grappling with trauma, alternates between the real world and his dream world where he becomes Omori. Released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was later removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by the developer, OMOCAT.
