Following this morning's Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality seem increasingly plausible.
The reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to connectors with flat bottoms. They then move across the surface like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.
Pre-reveal speculation centered on a Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. Nintendo hasn't confirmed this, nor its implications. Fans envision uses in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard games like Civilization, but also anticipate innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.
While much about potential Switch 2 mouse support (and the new Joy-Con button's function) remains unknown, we do have confirmed details. The console is officially named Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, with a new Mario Kart title in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
