NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, upgradeable multiple times, ensuring your favorites remain viable throughout the game. Weapon upgrades require various resources, including Beast Hides, a material not readily obtained. This guide details how to acquire and efficiently farm them.
Obtaining Beast Hides
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife like moose and boar, found in specific map areas (ruined cities and forests). These creatures are easily spotted on the minimap with their white icons (machines are black). They tend to avoid players and robots. Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their less frequent spawns.
Wildlife encounters vary based on your level. Lower-level animals may flee, while higher-level ones may attack or become aggressive if you approach. Wildlife boasts substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against similarly or higher-leveled creatures.
Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunt. Wildlife, unlike continuous enemy spawns in the main story, require exploration to find and subsequently respawn. Respawn mechanics are similar to those of machines:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance away respawns creatures in previously visited areas.
- Story progression can trigger respawns of nearby creatures.
Efficient Beast Hide Farming
There's no dedicated farming method for Beast Hides. The most effective approach is to eliminate all encountered wildlife while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, meaning you'll usually gather enough without excessive grinding, especially if you avoid upgrading more weapons than you can equip simultaneously.
