Nexus Mods, a popular modding platform, is facing backlash after removing over 500 mods for Marvel Rivals in a single month. The controversy centers on the removal of two mods that replaced Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The platform's owner, TheDarkOne, clarified on Reddit that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. Despite this, TheDarkOne reports receiving threats and online abuse following the removals.
"We removed the Biden mod the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. Yet, YouTube commentators remain strangely silent on this," TheDarkOne stated. The owner also revealed a surge in death threats and hateful comments directed at the platform.
This isn't the first time Nexus Mods has sparked controversy over mod removals. A similar incident occurred in 2022 when a Spider-Man Remastered mod replacing rainbow flags with American flags was removed. At the time, Nexus Mods publicly defended its stance on inclusivity and its commitment to removing content that violates its diversity policies.
TheDarkOne concluded, "We won't engage with those who find this removal controversial."
