Player First Games has announced the bittersweet news that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, bringing the curtain down on the Warner Bros. platform fighter on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST.
The studio detailed the discontinuation of support for the crossover brawler in a blog post on their website. Launched on May 28, 2024, MultiVersus will enter its final season, Season 5, next week, February 4th, running until its May 2025 closure. After this date, online play will cease, but Player First Games assures players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline via local and training modes.
The MultiVersus team shared a heartfelt message: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions for MultiVersus have ended as of today, January 31st, 2025. However, players can still utilize Gleamium and character tokens to acquire in-game content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
MultiVersus’ closure follows reports characterizing the project as a significant setback for Warner Bros. Discovery. A November financial call revealed the game's underperformance resulted in a $100 million writedown for the games sector, adding to a $300 million total after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be departing the company following a challenging 2024.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels stated during the November call.
Despite the shutdown just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises a final hurrah. Alongside standard seasonal content, new playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the roster. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via daily calendar rewards, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
