A Pokémon fan has designed a Mega Evolution for the Normal/Flying-type Toucannon, sparking online discussion. The Pokémon franchise currently boasts 48 Mega Evolutions; 30 debuted in Pokémon X and Y (Generation VI), with the remainder added in the 2014 remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations enhancing a Pokémon's appearance, stats, and abilities. Iconic Pokémon like Lucario, Mewtwo (with two Mega forms each), and Charizard are among those capable of Mega Evolution. Given the series' over 1,000 Pokémon, fan-created Mega Evolutions are unsurprising.
On the Pokémon subreddit, user Just-Drawing-Mons unveiled their Mega Toucannon concept. This Alolan regional bird (Pikipek and Trumbeak's final evolution) features a redesigned appearance, most notably a modified beak resembling a scope. While the design changes are visually striking, the post doesn't detail potential stat or ability alterations.
Fan-Made Mega Evolutions and Redesigns
Just-Drawing-Mons has also created a Mega Skarmory (Steel/Flying, Generation II) and a Fighting-type Alakazam redesign (originally Psychic, among the first 151 Pokémon).
Mega Evolutions, previously featured in Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon Unite, are slated for a return in the mainline series with Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set in Lumiose City (Kalos region, Generation VI), this Switch title is expected in 2025.
Highly Requested Mega Evolutions
Fans eagerly anticipate Mega Evolutions for several Pokémon in the next major installment, including Dragonite (a powerful first-generation non-Legendary), the Generation VI starters (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie), and Flygon (whose Mega Evolution was initially planned for Pokémon X and Y but ultimately scrapped due to design challenges, according to Ken Sugimori, the franchise's main character designer).
