Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking us on a thrilling adventure set after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are at the forefront, working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, fresh off his acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the reins as writer for this new volume. The legendary Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the art, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing stunning cover art for the first issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, picking up the narrative after the final showdown between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at Jakku. The New Republic strives to become the galaxy's governing force, but the path is far from smooth. Luke and his companions face new challenges as opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other nefarious elements exploit the power vacuum left in the Empire's wake.
“Now that we've concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era, filled with fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character-driven moments Star Wars fans adore, offering unique twists on the galaxy and familiar settings. We've designed these stories to be easily accessible to new readers, ensuring an enjoyable experience from any issue. We're incredibly excited!”
“Alex is an exceptional writer, crafting fantastic storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life!” Noto shared. “It's been particularly exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV versions to constrain my work. I get to create fresh interpretations while using the actors from the 80s as a helpful guide for this specific timeline.”
Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only exciting new comic set after Return of the Jedi. In February, they'll launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
