Daredevil's highly anticipated next season is on the horizon, and the creative team is already brainstorming future possibilities, including a potential Defenders reunion.
In a recent EW profile, Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming and TV at Marvel Studios, revealed the studio's keen interest in reuniting the street-level heroes from Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist—better known as The Defenders.
While nothing is confirmed, Winderbaum stated to EW, "The potential to work within that established universe is incredibly exciting... However, unlike comic books where creative limitations are minimal, we have to consider factors like actor availability, scheduling, and the immense production scale required to build a cinematic universe, particularly for television."
He continued, "Despite these logistical challenges, the creative possibilities are extremely compelling, and we're actively exploring them."
It's already known that Daredevil: Born Again will directly continue the Daredevil storyline initiated on Netflix. Netflix previously hosted its own, albeit smaller-scale, Marvel universe featuring shows like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Winderbaum's comments suggest that Daredevil: Born Again might serve as a springboard to reintroduce these characters within Disney's MCU framework on Disney+. The inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the new season further solidifies the transfer of Netflix-era Marvel heroes.
Ultimately, the success of Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th, will greatly influence how Daredevil integrates into the broader MCU. Only time will tell if the Defenders will reunite.
