Tidepool Games has just released an exciting new fast-paced pixel art game for Android called MageTrain. If you're a fan of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly familiar as it heavily draws inspiration from it.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain blends the classic game of Snake with elements of auto-battlers and roguelikes. You lead a line of heroes, much like a snake, navigating through arenas. Each hero autonomously attacks as you control their movements, ensuring you don't crash into enemies or obstacles. Strategic placement is key, as the position of each hero within the 'train' affects their abilities.
At launch, MageTrain features nine unique heroes, one of whom uniquely throws birds. These heroes possess different skills depending on their position in the line. You'll explore eight different dungeons, battle against 28 types of enemies, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your performance.
The game adopts a roguelike format, ensuring that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate through branching paths, choose upgrades, and strive to survive as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels and no option to save your progress. Every run is a fresh start, and if you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to begin anew.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The thrill of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement with each run, even when you lose. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to go all out offensively, and when to simply hang on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Head over to the Google Play Store to give it a try.
