While some gaming communities, such as the fans of Tomodachi Life, are buzzing with excitement following today's Nintendo Direct, others are feeling the sting of disappointment. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again donning their clown makeup after no new trailer for the eagerly awaited sequel appeared during the showcase.
Fortunately, another opportunity is on the horizon.
Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been a rollercoaster of anticipation and letdowns for quite some time. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord server reveals a constant stream of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that seems perpetually on the brink of release. We've reported on their reactions before, notably during last year's back-to-back Nintendo Directs and earlier this year when a chocolate cake photo sparked a wild goose chase for an ARG that never materialized. At this point, it's challenging to discern from an outsider's perspective how much genuine disappointment exists versus the playful camaraderie of a dedicated fanbase that finds humor in each new showcase announcement.
Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, the upcoming showcase carries a bit more weight. Hollow Knight initially launched on PC but truly soared in popularity with its release on the Nintendo Switch the following year, cementing its association with Nintendo's platform. The anticipation for the next showcase is heightened because it's a Nintendo Direct focused on unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2, showcasing both its hardware and potential launch titles. This grand stage seems like the perfect venue for Silksong to make a dramatic reappearance. While the event will undoubtedly feature numerous first-party titles, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity and anticipation will secure it a spot at this major showcase—and, crucially, that the game is finally ready for its big moment.

Are Silksong fans poised for yet another disappointment, perhaps the 50th since the game's announcement? It's quite possible! However, there are some signs that Silksong might be nearing a release date announcement. A recent Xbox Wire post on indie games briefly mentioned it, though it could have been a playful tease. More intriguingly, recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing, including an updated copyright year, have been noted. Yet, the community has been through numerous cycles of overhyped anticipation due to random listings and delistings on various console storefronts. So, the situation remains uncertain.

The only thing we know for sure is what Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, stated in January after the cake incident: "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and envision what life will be like in a world where Silksong has finally been released.
So, get that clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
