God of War fans are voicing their displeasure, with reports of review-bombing God of War Ragnarök on Steam due to Sony's controversial PSN account requirement.
God of War Ragnarök's PC Launch Receives Mixed Steam Reviews
Fan Outrage Over PSN Requirement
Since its recent PC release on Steam, God of War Ragnarök has garnered a "Mixed" user review score. Many fans are review-bombing the game in protest of Sony's mandatory PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking. Launched last week, the game currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.
Sony's announcement that a PSN account is required to play the single-player title on PC has baffled and angered many players, fueling the negative reviews.
While numerous negative reviews cite the PSN requirement, some players report successfully playing without linking an account. One user commented, "I understand the frustration about the PlayStation account. Forcing online features into a single-player game is annoying. But I played fine without logging in. It's a shame; these reviews will deter people from an amazing game."
Another review highlights technical issues: "The PSN requirement is a killer. The game launched, I even logged in, but it got stuck on a black screen. It says I played for 1 hour 40 minutes—ridiculous!"
Despite the negative response, positive reviews praise the game's quality, attributing the low score solely to Sony's decision. One player stated, "Great story, as expected. The negative reviews are almost entirely about the PSN requirement. Sony needs to address this. Otherwise, it's a top-notch PC port."
This isn't the first time Sony has faced this backlash. A similar situation occurred with Helldivers 2, also requiring PSN account linking. Following significant player outcry, Sony reversed its decision and removed the requirement.
