Fallout 76 Season 20: The Ghoul Within - Now Live
Dive into the latest update for Fallout 76 and embrace the transformation into a Ghoul in the post-apocalyptic world of Appalachia. Bethesda's recent announcement on March 18 unveiled Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," introducing a plethora of ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and stunning new cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
The journey to Ghoulification begins with the "Leap of Faith" questline, guiding players through a fresh segment of the Savage Divide. Here, you'll encounter new characters pivotal to your transformation. As a Ghoul, you'll unlock unique abilities like Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 exclusive Ghoul Perks.
The Feral ability transforms your survival mechanics, replacing hunger and thirst with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, you receive various boosts. However, dropping to 0% drastically alters gameplay: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
Contrastingly, the Glow ability lets you consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, causing you to literally glow. It also boosts your maximum health, heals damage, and enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."
With 28 perks and 2 new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls, note that traditional perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance become obsolete for your Ghoul character.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-ravaged wasteland as a Ghoul becomes more manageable with your new Gherks and abilities. However, be wary; factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may view Ghouls with hostility, potentially locking you out of certain questlines.
Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises to bypass these restrictions, allowing interaction with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Remember, this is a one-way transformation; to become a Ghoul again, you'll need to spend 1000 Atoms for the Ghoul Retransformation.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned dweller of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost included in Season 20 offers a quick start. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost equips you with the necessary perks and advantages to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
The update also includes essential bug fixes, combat balance adjustments, and weapon damage modifications. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has transformed from a rocky start to a "Mostly Positive" reception on Steam, with 76% of reviews now favorable. The game is accessible on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
