Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup
Genki, renowned for its handheld gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing intriguing details about Nintendo's next-generation console. Based on a black market acquisition, the mockup accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing a design shift towards a larger form factor, reminiscent of the Valve Steam Deck.
Key features highlighted by the model include magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge. While the SL and SR buttons utilize magnets for detachment, a release mechanism ensures secure gameplay. Each Joy-Con also integrates an optical sensor, hinting at potential new functionalities, possibly mouse-like capabilities via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to support this theory.
Despite its increased size, the Switch 2 remains thin enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain a mystery.
