Author : Joseph Update:Feb 10,2025

Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024! Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, including several surprise releases. This typically quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's great news for us! We'll cover the latest news, review the new eShop games, and highlight the day's sales – both new and expiring. Let's dive in!

News

Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Wealth of Titles

Nintendo's strategic pairing of two smaller showcases proved effective, resulting in a flurry of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, notable highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new installments in the Atelier and Rune Factory series, and much more. I highly recommend watching the full video for a comprehensive overview. It's a treasure trove of games catering to diverse preferences.

Select New Releases

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A fantastic surprise from the Direct, this third Castlevania compilation features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the notoriously poor arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. This collection showcases exceptional emulation and a wealth of features, offering incredible value for its price.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired platformer, another surprise release, brings its frantic gameplay to the Switch. Players must navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this a must-have, but even those without strong Wario ties who enjoy platformers should give it a try. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

Continuing the trend of surprise releases, Goat Simulator 3 brings its signature chaotic gameplay to the Switch. The familiar Goat Simulator formula returns, though performance on the Switch remains to be seen, given challenges on more powerful systems. Proceed with caution, but even poor performance might enhance the game's inherent absurdity. Ultimately, it's a question of whether you're willing to risk your Switch's sanity for some silly goat antics.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's easy to criticize missed opportunities, EA's failure to bring PopCap's games to Switch seems like a significant oversight. Thankfully, Peglin provides a satisfying alternative for Peggle fans. Already available on mobile, this title seamlessly blends Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A full review will follow shortly.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's latest shop simulation game incorporates the beloved Doraemon franchise. While it utilizes the familiar Kairosoft formula, the Doraemon license adds a fresh coat of paint. The game even features cameos from characters from the manga artist's other works, making it a charming addition to the genre.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans! Supporting up to eight players via local or online multiplayer, this sequel emphasizes cooperation and puzzle-solving. While not drastically different from its predecessor, it offers more of the same enjoyable gameplay for those who loved the original.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple, enjoyable, and a great value for the price.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game starring a penguin. One hundred levels of crate-pushing fun.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles await. Players use character abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems, with support for up to four players locally or online.
