Eerie Worlds: A Tactical CCG Featuring Global Folklore Monsters
Rifts are rarely good news in gaming, but Avid Games has embraced the chaos with their new tactical collectible card game (CCG), Eerie Worlds. This highly anticipated sequel to Cards, the Universe and Everything offers a monster-filled adventure focused on learning and fun.
The game features a visually diverse roster of monsters inspired by real-world mythology and folklore from around the globe. Expect to encounter creatures from various cultures, including Japanese Yokai (like Jikininki and Kuchisake-onna), Slavic monsters (such as Vodyanoy and Psoglav), and many more familiar figures like Bigfoot and El Chupacabra. Each card includes detailed, researched descriptions, adding an educational element to the gameplay.
Eerie Worlds introduces four Alliances (Grimbald, Zerrofel, Rivin, and Synnig) and multiple Hordes, creating strategic depth through varied monster properties. Players build their "Grimoire," a personal monster collection, by merging duplicate cards from the 160 base cards, unlocking additional monsters with future updates promised.
Avid Games plans to release two more Hordes in the coming months, ensuring ongoing strategic challenges. Gameplay involves a nine-card deck (eight monsters, one world card) and nine 30-second turns filled with tactical decisions regarding mana management and synergy exploitation.
