Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: A PS5 Launch, and Beyond
FF7 Remake Part 3 Confirmed for PS5 Launch
PlayStation fans can breathe easy! Producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed during a January 23, 2025, interview with 4Gamer that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will debut on the PlayStation 5. Addressing concerns stemming from the release history of previous installments, Kitase assured fans, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the future release on other platforms remains a possibility, although details regarding a potential PS6 release are currently unavailable.
FF7 Remake Part 3: Release Date Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the release date. Development, however, reportedly commenced alongside Part 2, with full production accelerating after Part 2's February 2024 launch. Leveraging reusable assets and a completed story draft suggests a potentially sooner-than-expected release.
In a January 23, 2025, Famitsu interview, Hamaguchi offered an encouraging update: "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it." Kitase also expressed his satisfaction with the completed story, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."
Timed Exclusivity Expected for FF7 Remake Part 3
A March 6, 2024, Washington Post report indicated that PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the pattern of previous installments—FF7 Remake (one-year PS4 exclusivity), FF7 Remake Intergrade (six-month PS5 exclusivity), and FF7 Rebirth (timed PS5 exclusivity before its January 23, 2025 PC release)—Part 3 is also expected to have a period of PS5 exclusivity before launching on other platforms.
Square Enix’s Multi-Platform Strategy in Response to Declining Sales
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix’s March 31, 2024, financial report revealed declining sales in its HD titles. In response, the company announced a shift towards a multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This strategic move aims to boost sales and potentially broaden the reach of future titles like FF7 Remake Part 3, beyond its initial PS5 exclusivity.
