Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Evangelion collaboration fell short of expectations, according to a recent interview with the game's producer. The August 2024 event, featuring Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato, aimed for faithful character designs but ultimately missed the mark.
The Collaboration's Shortcomings:
The initial designs, created collaboratively by Shift Up and the NIKKE team, were deemed too suggestive by Evangelion's creators. Subsequent modifications, while acceptable to the licensors, failed to resonate with players. The resulting outfits lacked the visual appeal needed to entice players to acquire the limited-time characters and costumes. Asuka's gacha skin, in particular, was criticized for its close resemblance to her base model, offering little incentive for purchase.
Player Feedback and Future Outlook:
The collaboration's underwhelming reception stems from several factors. Players felt the event lacked compelling content and that the designs didn't align with NIKKE's established aesthetic of bold, anime-style characters. The collaborations, in general, are perceived as diluting the game's core identity. While acknowledging these shortcomings, Shift Up assures players that feedback will inform future collaborations.
The game, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, along with Neon Genesis Evangelion, is available on the Google Play Store. Fans hope Shift Up will learn from this experience and deliver more engaging content in the future. For other gaming news, check out our coverage of Wuthering Waves' Version 1.4 Update on Android.
