FromSoftware has unveiled exciting new details about their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also introduced a unique twist to the design of the hub area's keeper, making it notably... cute.
During the recent Switch 2 Direct, fans were introduced to a trailer that ended with an intriguing shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs. This character, it turns out, will serve as the hub companion in The Duskbloods. In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."
Miyazaki highlighted the influence of Nintendo in the character's design, stating, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." When asked to elaborate, he amusingly added, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."
FromSoftware's hub characters have always been pivotal to the player's journey, offering guidance and empowerment. Familiar figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll are staples in their respective games. However, with The Duskbloods being a PvPvE game, the winged rat's role in providing advice and guidance remains a mystery. Miyazaki teased that the team is exploring "a lot of new and interesting ideas," setting the stage for surprises when The Duskbloods launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
