Gems are essential equipable items that you'll need to unlock and craft through several steps. Once you've joined Lui Bei’s Volunteer Army in Chapter 1, visit an Inn to receive a letter from Zhang Fei. This letter introduces you to Gems and the raw material known as Pyroxene.

Pyroxene, the key ingredient for crafting Gems, appears as large, jewel-like formations scattered randomly across the overworld. Keep an eye out for them as you traverse the world en route to your next battle. Additionally, you can earn Pyroxene by completing sidequests, amassing enough Old Coins, and reading letters at the Inn, ensuring you'll soon have a plentiful supply.

After collecting Pyroxene, head back to an Inn to transform it into Gems. The crafting process is randomized; you'll choose a number of Pyroxene pieces to craft, and they'll be transformed into various types of Gems. Whether you use one or ten pieces, the outcome remains unpredictable. The only hint you get is if a white glowing aura surrounds a Gem in the crafting menu at the Inn. When you see this aura, only Gems of that type will be crafted during that session.
