NetEase's Ananta: A New Name, a New Trailer, and a Mystery
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain? It's had a name change. Now officially titled Ananta, this game, initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, finally offers a glimpse of what's to come with a newly released trailer. More information is promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the teaser:
The Significance of the Name Change
While the developers remain silent on the reasons behind the rebranding, the name Ananta, meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns perfectly with the original title, Mugen (also meaning "infinite"). The Chinese title further supports this interpretation.
The gaming community is divided on the change, though relief abounds that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. However, many find Ananta’s visuals more captivating.
A Curious Development
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This unexpected move has left many players puzzled.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural chaos. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
