Beloved Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and numerous other titles, has shared a moving message following a near-fatal incident. Last week, he was found "barely alive" in his Atlanta hotel room.
A GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised an astounding $174,653 for his medical expenses and outstanding bills, features a video message from Johnson himself, revealing he was in a coma.
"I discovered there's a tremendous amount of love in the world that I wasn't aware of, and I'm deeply grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson expressed in the video.
He was in Atlanta for a National Alzheimer's Foundation benefit event. After arriving and checking into his hotel, concerns arose when he failed to appear. His wife, Kim Johnson, contacted the hotel, prompting security and EMTs to intervene. They found him with a barely detectable pulse.
"The rumors of my demise were not exaggerated. It was incredibly close. But I'm still here," Johnson stated. He credits his wife's quick thinking and the actions of his son, who contacted hotel security, with saving his life. He spent five days in a medically induced coma.
Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for supporting his family, Ted Leonsis (chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company) for a substantial $25,000 donation, and to friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker for their instrumental role in organizing the GoFundMe. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to Bethesda, who publicly voiced their support, and to his fans for their overwhelming generosity and well wishes.
"I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," Johnson affirmed. "Recovery will take time, but I'm coming back. I look forward to connecting with you all again soon."
Beyond his extensive video game work with Bethesda, Johnson boasts a diverse career in film and television. His recent role as Ron Hope in Starfield adds to a remarkable repertoire that includes memorable performances as Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in Oblivion, multiple Daedric Princes in Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among many others.
