Bandai Namco has announced the discontinuation of PAC-MAN Mobile, marking a poignant moment as the iconic character celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This beloved mobile version, which was launched over a decade ago, has been a staple for fans of the legendary game.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. As of April 1st, in-app purchases have been discontinued. If you're among the dedicated players still enjoying the game, you can continue playing until the final day on May 30th.
Many in the community have voiced their disappointment over Bandai Namco's decision to shut down the game entirely rather than converting it to an offline mode. Such a move could have kept the game alive and potentially generated continued revenue.
This iteration of PAC-MAN, once known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. It featured the iconic 8-bit arcade mode alongside a rich Story Mode, filled with unique mazes. Additionally, the game included an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode added weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and there was a wide variety of skins available for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile might be attributed to the accumulation of bugs and issues over the years, which have plagued the game. The initial excitement during its launch on Android, where players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, has faded as these problems mounted.
If you're eager to experience PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its closure, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
