Exciting news for fans of the Avatar universe! Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios have just announced a brand-new series, Avatar: Seven Havens, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series is being crafted by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and will consist of 26 episodes of 2D animation. The story will follow a young Earthbender who steps into the role of the next Avatar after Korra, navigating a world that has been shattered by a devastating cataclysm.
According to the press release from Nickelodeon, Seven Havens is set in a perilous era where the new Avatar's title marks her as a potential destroyer rather than a savior. This young Earthbender, alongside her long-lost twin, must delve into their mysterious origins to prevent the collapse of civilization's last strongholds, the Seven Havens, while being pursued by both human and spirit enemies.
In their statement, Konietzko and DiMartino expressed their enthusiasm, stating, "When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters."
The series will be divided into two seasons, with Book 1 and Book 2 each containing 13 episodes. DiMartino and Konietzko are co-creating the series with executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. While the cast has yet to be revealed, anticipation is already building.
Avatar: Seven Havens marks the first mainline TV series from Avatar Studios, who are also working on a full-length animated movie set to premiere in theaters on January 30, 2026. This film will explore a new adventure with an adult Aang.
As part of the 20th anniversary celebration, Avatar Studios is also launching a range of new books, comics, concerts, toys, and even a game on Roblox, ensuring that fans have plenty of ways to engage with the beloved universe.
