Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed to March 2025 for Enhanced Gameplay
Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now launch on March 20th, 2025, marking the second delay for this highly anticipated addition to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Originally slated for a 2024 release, the game was first rescheduled to February 14th, 2025, and now faces a further delay to ensure a superior gaming experience.
Ubisoft's Commitment to a More Engaging Experience
The decision to push back the release date stems from Ubisoft's dedication to incorporating player feedback into the game. In their official statement shared across X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, Ubisoft emphasized that the additional time will be used to refine the game, stating, "Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience."

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot reinforced this commitment in a press release, explaining, "We are all behind our teams’ efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed opus of the franchise and made the decision to provide an extra month of development to Shadows in order to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months that will enable us to fully deliver on the potential of the game and finish the year on a strong note."
In addition to the delay, Ubisoft is taking steps to restructure the company to enhance player experiences, operational efficiency, and value creation. This move comes after the underwhelming performance of their 2024 releases, Star Wars Outlaws and the live-service shooter XDefiant, which saw its support discontinued just seven months post-launch.
While Ubisoft's official reason for the delay is to refine the game, some fans speculate that the shift to March could also be a strategic move to avoid a crowded February release window. Notable games set to launch in February include Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (February 4th), Civilization VII (February 11th), Avowed (February 18th), and Monster Hunter Wilds (February 28th). By moving the release to March, Ubisoft may be aiming to capture more attention for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
