The latest addition to Ubisoft's renowned stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. As fans, we're now faced with the exciting challenge of determining where it stands among its predecessors. With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we'll focus solely on the mainline entries for this ranking, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-off titles like Bloodlines or Liberation.
The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to experience the life of his ancestor Altaïr. Fast forward to 2025, and players now find themselves navigating 16th-century Japan as Naoe and Yasuke in the 14th installment of the core series. Based on personal enjoyment, I've created an IGN Tier List to rank these games. Here’s a glimpse at my tier list:
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains the game closest to my heart, with its perfect blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast. It shares the S-tier with Assassin's Creed 2, the title that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. Surprisingly, I've placed Valhalla in the A-tier, drawn to its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Unity also joins it in the A-tier, its stunning recreation of French Revolution-era Paris still impressing a decade on.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? You have the opportunity to create your own tier list below, comparing your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the entire IGN community.
