Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, raising over $2.5 million for cancer research.
The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation (PCF). This impressive total exceeds the 2024 event's fundraising by over $100,000. The event featured a diverse lineup of speedruns, showcasing various gaming genres and titles, including notable runs of Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and Pikmin.
AGDQ, a prominent annual winter event, is one of two major marathons hosted yearly by Games Done Quick (GDQ), alongside the Summer Games Done Quick event. GDQ also organizes smaller events throughout the year to support various charities. A noteworthy example is the October 2024 Disaster Relief Done Quick, which raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief in response to Hurricane Helene.
The AGDQ 2025 event, held in Pittsburgh, began with a speedrun of the Nintendo Switch version of Pikmin by Ray0ken. A standout moment was a unique Crazy Taxi run by Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing cover versions of the game's music to circumvent copyright restrictions. This creative run generated over $24,000 in donations. The event concluded with a thrilling randomized four-player race of Super Metroid on the SNES.
The Prevent Cancer Foundation's mission centers on early detection and prevention of cancer, research funding, and public awareness programs. The partnership between GDQ and PCF has been long-standing, with GDQ events having raised over $26 million for the foundation. GDQ's next major event, Summer Games Done Quick 2025, will benefit Doctors Without Borders and take place in Minneapolis starting July 6th.
